Privacy

We built WhichAE to collect as little as possible. You never give us your name, phone number or email.

Who we are

WhichAE is run by Miinted Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17022231). Registered office: 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, WC1N 3AX. In this notice, “we” means Miinted Ltd. We decide how the information described here is used. Contact: hello@whichae.co.uk.

When you check in

We store which hospital, roughly when you arrived (to the nearest 5 minutes), and when you tap “seen by a nurse”, “seen by a doctor” and “leaving”. Your phone keeps a random code so you can update your own visit. We delete our copy of that code after 48 hours. After that, your times can’t be linked back to your phone.

Your location

If you allow it, your phone checks whether you’re near the hospital when you check in. When you come back to WhichAE, it checks again to see if you’ve left, so it can ask you to check out. Your location stays on your phone. We only receive “yes, at the hospital” or “no”. We never receive or store where you are.

Check-out reminders

If you turn on reminders, your browser gives us a push address for your phone so we can send a notification every 2 hours while you’re checked in. The notification itself contains no information about you or your visit. Your phone adds the hospital name. We delete the push address as soon as you check out, and in any case within 24 hours. You can turn reminders off on the check-in screen or in your phone’s settings.

Stopping abuse

To stop fake reports we limit how often check-ins can come from one connection. To do this we keep a scrambled code made from your internet address and that day’s date. It can’t be turned back into your address, and we delete it after 24 hours.

Why we can use this information

Being at A&E can say something about your health, so we treat your check-in as health information. We only use it with your agreement: you choose to check in, and you can check out or delete your visit (“I checked in by mistake”) at any time. The rate-limiting code is kept because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the figures honest.

Who else handles it

WhichAE runs on Cloudflare, which hosts the website and database for us in line with UK data protection law. Reminder notifications pass through your phone’s own push service (Apple, Google or Mozilla), which sees only that a notification was sent. We never sell or share your information.

On your phone

WhichAE saves your check-in and your text size choice in your browser’s storage, so they’re still there if you close the page. It also saves a copy of the check-in screen so it opens without signal. Checking out removes your visit, and it expires automatically after 24 hours. These are essential for the service you asked for, so we don’t ask for cookie consent.

Adverts

We don’t show adverts yet. If we add them, we’ll ask your permission first. We won’t use anything you tell us about your visit for advertising.

Your rights and contact

You have the right to ask what we hold about you and to have it deleted. Because we don’t know who you are, we usually can’t find a specific visit. While you’re checked in, you can delete it yourself with “I checked in by mistake”. For anything else, contact us at hello@whichae.co.uk. If you’re unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
